start stop

We just had a new 480v exhaust fan for a spray booth stop working.
Exterior start stop enclosure was flooded.
Vertical offset did not meet up under rigid coupling and acted as a drainpipe.

Motor takes 1.6amps on the nameplate.

I don't see why this install needed a start stop at the motor.
If there is a power outage I don't see the hazard if the fan were to come back on.

Can't I just substitute a manual motor switch, with or without heaters?

This is the way I look at ot. What ever floats the owner's boat re. a S/S PB or a manual. As such I would discuss this option with the owner and let him/her make that call. Alls, you must provide OL protection regardless unless the motor itself has an integral thermal OL protective built in.

It's a three phase 480 so I didn't really inspect the nameplate Yet but I don't think it's inherently protected

What type of starter....................I'm guessing this starter and or on/off switch also has a contact on it to ensure something doesn't turn on unless the fan is running???

Yeah so far just looks like at the outdoor spray booth was just a squirrel cage on top of a metal shoebox I'll go when I look at the name plate to see if there's some shutters that are activated or anything else but it looks like just the one motor up high that's it. Three lines 3 terminals on a couple wires to pull magnet in but it's really rusty in they are letting me tidy it up
