I have a starter bucket in an mcc that powers an exhaust fan. The control is a simple on-off switch by the exhaust fan.

I need to relocate this circuit so it's fed from a new panelboard that is now on a generator.

I was thinking I would just specify a new starter in a wall mounted box, similar to existing one (including the controls). I would feed this starter from a branch circuit on the panelboard.

Does that sound fine or no?

Sounds fine, if a starter is necessary..assuming it is since the MCC has one but details on the motor would help confirm the need)

If you plan to rely on the breaker in the panelboard for the disconnect for the new starter, it must be within sight of the starter. Obviously, if you put in a combination starter with its own breaker or fused disconnect, that isn't an issue.
