Starter for Hermetic Compressor Motor

What is the criteria for selection of this starter (contactor, overload relay & short circuit protection)? Do any standards cover it?

If this is a standard A/C unit, the overloads are built in the compressor. The starter is the contactor and the short circuit is the OC device. For compressors the OC device may be set at 175% of the FLA of the unit.
