Hi im looking at being let go by my current employer and have decided now is the time to start out on my own bussiness.Anyone have any strategies on finding General contractors to work for.Ive always done mostly residential work any sudgestions on geting work would be greatly appreciated.

Join your local contractor's/home builders associations and start making contacts.

Put together a business plan, brochures, and proposal packages. Go to the local builders and ask to submit bids for new home construction.

I would also contact all your local realtor offices. This can lead to alot of work.

be cautious with real estate brokers.

Sometimes they call you just to get an estimate.

They shop around for the cheapest price. Could be a waste of your time.

That's the way I feel about it.

Use spell check before you send any letters or e-mails to potential customers. Also, re-read what you have written a couple of times to make sure that it is correct. Negative impressions can be made on poorly written communications.

Did you notice, there is a decline in new construction, and the real estate market is in decline, IMO not the best conditions, for any new entry in any of the construction trades.
