I have state approved trailer used for offices. Not for contractor office but for regular office. The service equipment is more than 30 feet on strut structure, service is 120/208V three phase. A two pole circuit breaker from panelboard on the strut more then 30 ft away feeds to trailer disconnect fused at 100 amps located next to the trailer. Does the disconnect req to be service disconnect per 2014 code?

Not sure what 2014 said, but at any rate it never would be a service disconnect no matter what year your looking at because your “service” is at the panelboard 30’ away. Your disconnect next to the trailer is a feeder disconnect and should be fed in and out with a 4 wire feeder.

I think he is asking if it need to be suitable for use as service equipment. It definitely is not service equipment in his application.

IMO its not an Art 550 situation so the 30' is irrelevant. I see it as an Art 225 and 225.36 removed the SUSE requirement in '14.
I think it meets NEC.

What other details?

Good place to start is does it have a nameplate?

Might not be a dwelling but is it made to other mobile home standards?

You called it a trailer in OP. What exactly does that mean? Might even be a 551 application.

Nameplate: I dont know. Its state approved.

If built as home standards but used as office: I dont know if its built as home but its State approved. It has offices room and kitchen. Nec 550 says 120v or 120/240v then setvice rated applies but I have 208v single phase for the trailer??

Nec 551: more so for recreational trailers. This is for regular office use but not contractor office.

I think we need more details to know if 550 applies or not.
Reading 550.1 would seem to indicate this application was not subject to Art 550 but when I continue to read it appears from 550.4 that some of Art 550 wouold apply including 550.32(D) which does state the external disconnect shall b within 30 ft and Service Rated.
( A lot of folks in this area have gotten away with the install the OP describes :) )

State approved - does that mean they inspected it when it was constructed?

Mobile homes are already certified (by HUD AFAIK). State shouldn't need to approve them, only the supply circuit or anything else added in the field.

Not necessarily a true test of whether or not it is a mobile home or not, but if it gets pulled in, set in place and the axles and frame it was transported on stay with it - it usually is considered a mobile home. If axles and or a transport frame are removed and it is set on a permanent foundation - it typically is not a mobile home. Service equipment can be directly attached to such structure.

Even if it is identified as a mobile or manufactured home but is placed on a permanent foundation - service equipment might be allowed to be in/on the structure. Original wiring installed at the place of manufacture typically doesn't require permits or inspection - it was already approved via their certification process.
