here's the question [culled from questions no longer in use]:

"A short circuit can be defined as a circuit:" [unlikely responses omitted]

a) that has a ground fault
b) that takes a shorter path than intended

which answer, and why?

(all helpful explanations gratefully received...)

although I balked at the second response--it seems a bit too...obvious--still, a short may not involve grounding (e.g., a phase-to-phase direct contact). True?

thanks George: the Socratic method...elicit the answer...

here's another:

"Underwriters Laboratories is a recognized testing laboratory that tests materials to a:"

a) minimum standard
b) average
c) maximum standard
d) manufacturer's standard

a) seems to be the best candidate--true?

thanks, George!

One answer is more specific than the other, and the other is true, so pick the broadest answer that works.

If there were four choices it would be harder to get the answer by guessing. The automotive quizzes I've seen would have added

c) both of the above
d) neither of the above
