I was wondering if you need a state license to work as a journeyman for a contractor in the state of n. carolina . I have my ny state journeymans papers. I am planning to move south in the near future. Up here in ny the individual doesn't need to be licensed just the contractor

As far as the State of NC, no, you do not need a state license to work as a Journeyman. As far as individual cities are concerned, some do require cards (local testing) some don't.

In Asheville it is a 1 to 1 ratio and they do not reciprocate other areas Journeyman cards, however, if it is an NC state contractors license (qualifier) or another states contractors license that is reciprocal with NC at state level, it is recognized by all cities and will allow you to work as a Journeyman.
