The State of California, Dept. of Industrial Relations has enacted a program requiring electricians to be Certified inorder to work for a C-10 Licensed contractor. (Not necessary if working for a General Contractor) Seems unfair.
If the requirements for Certification program aren't met the employee must be registered in a Calif. approved curriculum and the CA DAS as a trainee. OK thats just fine but our nearest approved location is over 80 miles away! Can you folks offer an internet based program that would satisfy Calif. requirements and be approved for the necessary units to be applied for the
classroom portion of its requirements?

There is a 70 mile cutoff for being exempt from enrolling. You still have to register and claim that exemption. It must be renewed yearly. Contact the nearest school and tell them you are more than 70 miles away. ask for an attempt to enroll form. They should have them. according to my source close to the program, this policy is still in effect. Let me know if you have any problems.
New programs are being approved quarterly with the next one in March. About 5 more are up for approval then.

I spoke to the DIR the other day and was told the have approved online courses.. The student will need to go to the school for some practical testing unless there are a few trainees in the area then the school will send out an instructor.. So they claim.

Fresh from the meeting in San Diego:

I found out that WECA offers online courses for trainees. Check out their website.

The 70 mile exemption is history. Even if you're 300 miles away you have to enroll and attend classes. The online thing looks even better now.

Speaking of hours. There will not be any checking of hours in the near future, possibly ever.

Voice Data testing begins March 17th.

The DAS will be going to the legislature soon to get some enforcement laws enacted. Possibly this session.
