State of California; General Electrician exam prep

Specifically regarding the "General Electrician" exam in California:

This is a 4-hour exam with 100 questions in which an applicant has to score 70% or greater to pass. It is multiple choice, and performed on a PC.

Question #1: "Are there any load calculations, i.e. Determing voltage drops, current flow, conductor power loss, power consumed, etc." on this exam?

Question #2: Are there any Series, Parallel, or combination circuit calculations?


I have been offered employment in San Diego (contigent upon passing this exam) next week.

NO & NO.

There are basic load calculation related questions but you are not doing any load calculation. There are very VERY basic theory questions, basic ohms law.

The exam is easy. But you can't just read practice questions and memorize them, you need to learn and know how to navigate through the code book.
Take your time don't rush through the test, you have 4 hours, use all 4 hours.

Mike Holt has a great journeyman prep simulated exam book, so does DEWALT. I have found that both books make great practice books and i feel if
you practice on these books you will pass the CA exam.

You are an electrician. This means more than passing a test. Strive to be the best. Master anything you do in the trade. There are tons of free information on the web. Take an hour or so a day and get good at this stuff. This may be getting a little dramatic, but truely someones life depends on your skill and knowledge.
