I have one of my apprentices getting ready to take his exam. Neither him or myself can get an answer as to what tabs he is allowed to use on his code book. I do know that they are allowed, but do not know whether or not he can put on his own or if they need to be the ones designed for the code book. If there is someone from Michigan that can assist on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Re: State of Michigan Journaymans Exam

This info is right from the State of Michigan web site.

Examination Information Notice
Effective November 1, 2001, the Bureau of Construction Codes will no longer provide codebooks at examination sites.
Applicants for examination will be allowed to bring an unmarked National Electrical Code book for use during the examination. Code books must include listed index tabs , not homemade varieties. No other markings will be allowed within the code book. This includes: margin notes, test
notes, highlighting, or other test aides.
Programmable calculators, ElectriCalc calculators, Code Handbooks, Residential Code Books, paper for notes, notes, or other materials will not be
allowed into the examination site.
Individuals found to be in violation of these provisions will be asked to surrender their examination and leave the examination site.

My understanding is they must be listed index tabs that can be purchased from this web site.
