My friend has a wood working shop for himself in his basement. He ran PVC piping to various machines that are connected to a vacuum to help keep the area clean. He has noticed that when running this equipment since the installation of the vacuum system, that he gets a shock while the vacuum is operating. We have checked all the grounds and there is nothing loose on any equipment. Thus we believe this to be from the wood chips flowing through the plastic pipe creating static electricity.

So, the question is this, if we bond all units together with an ample size conductor, while this take care of the problem ? We don't want any fires, nor electric shocks from this static charge. Is there anything else that we should do to eliminate this ?

Thanks

Most woodworking sites will have an article's on dust removal. As of late to best way is to utilize metal duct. Some have tried to wrap the PVC, with braided straps or bare copper wire. others have installed wire in the duct. It is my understanding neither work very well. I removed my PVC dust evacuation and installed metal duct and have no static problems now.
