Static phase converter SPD

Customer bought a transformer and static phase converter. 240 into transformer, out with 480 to the SPC, then on to pivot. Instructions show a factory optional SPD. Of course they bought the cheap model with no options. I suspect the transformer will filter lineside somewhat. 4% Impedance I believe. Im wondering if something should be put at the pivot panel for protection from that end. That’s a 1/4 mile target.

If they were too cheap to get a cheap little SPD for utility transients, they are not going to want to pay for what it would take to survive a direct lightning hit on the pipes.
