WHAT WOULD CAUSE STATIC IN A RADIO THROUGHOUT THE HOME FROM FLUORESCENT LIGHTING. THIS HOME IS BRAND NEW WITH EXPENSIVE FLUORESCENT LIGHTING.
THE ONLY LIGHTING IN THE HOME THAT DOESN'T CAUSE THE STAIC IS THE CHEAP UNDER CABINET FLUORESCENT LIGHTING THAT THE OWNER BOUGHT AT HOME DEPOT.

WHAT TO DO?

Re: STATIC

Fluorescent lighting emits both radio frequencies and electromagnetic frequencies that can interfere with other electric and electronic components. Expensive fixtures may have cheap parts, namely the ballast and starters. Usually this is only an issue on AM signals, but I suppose it could be an issue on FM as well.

What to Do? Turn off the offending lights when using the radio, Move the radio to a room without offending fixtures, Plug in the radio on a circuit not serving the fluorescent fixtures, check the grounding system.

Re: STATIC

checking the grounding system may be a pretty good idea...
newer electronic ballasts leak a small amount of current to ground, in order to comply with certain FCC regulations.. those regulations usually have to do with radio interference upon other appliances...

ive worked with ALOT of guys who almost REFUSE to hook up ground wires in lights, thinking 'it really doesnt matter anyway'
if those ballasts have nowhere to leak that current, where is it gonna go?
