We had an OSHA representative come to one of our facilities and said she didn't like the use of cord drops for some of our machines. She said if they are stationary they need to be piped. We do move our machines periodically to create cells for different orders. I know, I bring up the cost of doing this, and this is a whole different issue. Anyways the electrical inspector has never said anything about this issue in any of our facilities. Anyone have a different view?

OSHA would (should) only be concerned for safety issues, electrical issues fall under the NEC and the associated AHJ in your area.

But if you have cords lying on the ground or suspended in such a way as to be a trip / fall hazard, that could be an OSHA concern for sure. Without knowing the circumstances it's hard to pass judgement on that.

Actually, read 29CFR 1910.305(a), especially (a)(2) for their interpretation of "temporary".
