I have 8 mixers in a clarifier that I need to moniter the status of. Right now they are wired so when the switch is on it pulls in a relay that switches the discrete signal from the plc. I would like to know if there is maybe a ct I can install that would pull in the relay so it would actually tell if the motor is running instead of just monitoring the position of the switch. Any ideas are appreciated.

What you really want to know is if the mixers are mixing. How about rigging a remote tach to see if the shaft is moving?

I suppose you could also find the load and no-load current draws and use a current monitor, the switch position, and rig an OR gate to an alarm output.

there are CT's that will open/close contacts when you have current flow. I think made by Veris, or something like that.

I used ones from NK Technologies and from Relay-In-a-Box (Functional Devices). I liked them both.

Thanks for the info Jim. Found one from NK as you suggested. The boss really liked it and I think that's what we are going with. Being this is a fairly new job for me and not having worked with a lot of this stuff before I'm trying to go the extra mile and impress the new boss a little. Thanks a lot for your help.
