STD vs MAX Horsepower rating of disconnect switches

We have a 480V, 3-phase 300 horsepower motor for an air compressor. I took this picture of the label inside the disconnect switch. Obviously the disconnect switch is not rated 300 HP at 480 Volts. What I am having difficulty understanding is why the disconnect switch has two ratings columns; Std and Max. Why not just say the disconnect in question is rated either 100 HP or 250 HP?
