Steam unit disconect

Can anyone tell me where in the code it requires a disconnect for a shower steam unit ?

This would no doubt be treated as an appliance and IMO, 422.31 would apply.

I'm with you. What is it? I wouldn't want to be taking any showers with steam.

They basically make a steam sauna out of a shower enclosure.

I would think a lock attachment on the breaker handle would work. Or for a small unit, you might even get a 277V double pole snap switch with a 30A rating.

This is not permitted. The lock such as lockout types are not what is required... the lock would have to be a permanent installation.

422.31... The branch circuit switch or circuit breaker sahll be permitted to serve as teh disconnecting means where the switch or circuit breaker ...is capable of being locked in the open position. The provision for locking or adding a lock to the disconnecting means shall be installed on or at the switch or circuit breaker ... and shall remain in place with or without the lock installed

It's clear the lock doesn't need to be installed, only the provision for attaching a lock. I'm sure Square D makes lockout attachments that remain in place without the lock being installed.
