sterilizers for OR's

Do Sterilizers/autoclaves for OR's need to be on the Essential Electrical System (presumably the equipment branch).

I don't see them listed in 517.34 nor in the Critical section. Yet I know we normally DO put them on Equipment. Am in a situation however where I need to know the letter of the law.

Is it located in the OR?
Or located elsewhere in the hospital for the use of the OR?

And does the state in which the project is located have a state agency for healthcare administration who takes jurisdiction over the design?

I don't think you will find a code paragraph that says one way or the other.

It is up to the facility to decide if these are necessary during a power outage. If so, they would fall under the code section that allows "other selected equipment".
