Storable pool, above ground pool

Ok.....I know I can't be the only person to scratch their head on this matter. I am to understand that the NEC includes above ground pools (not over 42" deep) to be the same as a storable pool???? To me a storable pool is one which is taken down and then stored like one of those little kiddie pools. An above ground pool is actually a permanent installation. I've never seen or heard of anyone taking an above ground swimming pool apart and storing it on a regular basis...say at the end of summer. Most of us know this would be ridiculous.

The code is defined as it is so whether it is taken down or not it can still be wired as a storable pool. Now there is nothing stopping you from wiring as an in ground pool if it makes you feel better.

+1

There are a lot of definitions in the NEC that we don't agree with but it is the enforced definition, sometimes it makes it easier and sometimes not.

I wondered the same thing. I am planning to wire an above ground pool as a storable pool next week. I look on the pump motor and saw this text:

Caution: This pump is for use with permanently installed pools only. Do not use with storable pools.

Now I am more confused.
