I'm trying to calculate a store 50'x60' with 60' of show window I don't know how many outlets.
Should I add 5 outlets @ 180va per 210-62 along with general lighting load of 9000va and show window lighting of 12000va ?

Re: store w/show window calculation

I see the basis of the 9,000 VA (3,000 square feet at 3 VA each). I see the basis of the 12,000 VA (200 VA per foot of show window times 60 feet).

Are you asking if the 5 receptacle outlets required by 210.62 (i.e., one per every 12 feet, along a 60 foot window) need to be counted as separate loads? If so, then my answer is ?No.? I believe the load associated with outlets to be installed above the window is accounted for in the show window calculation of 220.3(B)(7)(2).

Re: store w/show window calculation

Thanks, that was exactly what I was asking, sometimes I get caught up in over reviewing the code.

Re: store w/show window calculation

I may be wrong, but since this is commercial you don't really need the outlets at 12'. Right?

You don't need any receptacles in a commercial building unless required by 210.63

Re: store w/show window calculation

Are you sure about that one, Ryan? Part III of Article 210 talks about required outlets. 210.62 is within Part III, and requires outlets for any show window. It is not limited to dwelling units or any other occupancy.

Re: store w/show window calculation

just for general information:

Art 210.62
"At least one receptacle outlet shall be installed directly above a show window for each 3.7 linear m (12 ft) or major fraction thereof of show window area measured horizontally...."

Also, the NOTE of 210.62 reads:
".....and one receptacle is required for every 12 linear ft or "major fraction thereof"....."
