Straight blade plug held by ties

Here's the situation.
Client likes secure plugs to prevent accidental removal.
Standard NEMA 5-20R and 5-20P with the plug held in place with long wire ties wrapped around the plug and the back of the receptacle box.

Code compliant?

It would be NEC code compliant, but may cause some harm to the equipment if someone tripped over a cord. How can we enforce common sense?
Let this one go and repair any damage when and if it occurs.

That wouldn't be any different (tripping hazzard wise) than a locking plug, would it?

I think if the cord-and-plug connection is the means of disconnect for the equipment, then you would have a problem.
