Stranded Wire and Main Lugs

I am installing a MLO panel in a shed. I will be powering it with THHN/THWN #8 stranded from my main panel. The set screw on the lug mashes the wire in such a manner that I would consider it an electrical hazard and unsafe. My experience in electronics dictates that terminating stranded wire requires a solid mechanical joint. Having the 19 strands fan out under the set screw just doesn't look viable, both mechanically and electrically. Are there alternatives to terminating stranded wire in this application?
