Greetings,

What are the benefits of using clamp back spacers with a clamp versus directly connecting conduit to a concrete structure using a clamp ?

Thanks,
EE

Back straps space the conduit off the surface it's run on. Normally you would use them in areas where the walls are washed down to keep dirt from being trapped between the conduit and wall. They are also useful to eliminate offsets when bringing conduit into a box or fitting.

Back straps are usually galvanized malleable iron and used with malleable one-hole straps.

You would need something like a backstrap to comply with 300.6(D). I thought at one time these were required on all wet location horizontal installations, but I couldn't find a code reference.

If the concrete wall is in a basement, spacers will keep the conduit dryer, and less prone to rusting.
