Strapping UF cable

Was curious if someone could cite the code in the NEC that explains how far apart straps need to be on UF cable. I realized it sends you to 334, but I know it needs to be strapped closer than four and a half feet intervals. thanks in advance

Yep. 334 for strapping rules. See 340.10 (4)

TMK, the only exceptions to 4.5' are thru-framing, direct bury, or conduit (no securing required), and near boxes/panels (12", 8" if there in no box clamp).

Pull out your code book and ask him to show you where it says that.

As far as the NEC goes 4-1/2' max between supports. Now that area may have amendments but I doubt it is 'hammer length'.


Now that said, the inspector might be able to put it to you this way:

'Either strap it like I ask or I fail it based on 300.4 and you use a different wiring method.'
