I got to build a service on a new shell building for a small strip mall. What would be the cheapest and easiest method of building this service that will have 1- 800amp service and 5-200amp services. My idea is to bring (4) 3 1/2" pipes under ground into a wiretray and set tap lugs in the wireway and run from the tap blocks to each of the meterbases. I will have to parallel 300mcm for the 800amp service. Any advice/direction from someone who has experience with this type installation would be appreciated.

elvis,

when you said parallel sets of 300 mcm did you mean 2 sets, Because that seems small.

I Think you will need to go with 3 sets if you wanted to use 300 mcm for 800 amps.

Also, (if you can) run your feeders to the stores through the slab

could you get one large meterbase with all those breakers all ready in it and just run pipe from the meterbase to the transformer pad and pipe from each individual metersocket to the stores? i installed a rather large service for a commercial building that had a bunch of tenants in it renting spots out. the service was mounted on a large board outside and we added in tap boxes with metersockets as needed. for the 800 amps, i dont know if they make a metersocket rated for 800 amps you might need to use CT's and hit a 13 terminal metersocket with that.

I plan on running three sets of 300mcm. Is that the best way to go; setting tap lugs in the wireway and then dropping down to the meterbases, or is there a better way?
