Strobe mounting height

I know code is 80" to 94". But I'm in a mechanical room with duct that is lowed then 80". Do I mount at code height or lower strobe to be visible? Cannot find anything on this problem.

80" to 96" AFF or you are allowed to go 6" below ceiling if needed because ceiling is too low.

The wall mounting of visible signals is required to have the lens of the strobe mounted not less than 80 inches and not greater than 96 inches above the finished floor. Guidance also is given where a ceiling is too low to permit the required installation height at the minimum of 80 inches. In this case, the code dictates that the visible appliance must be mounted within 6 inches of the ceiling, and the room size covered by the strobe must also be reduced by twice the difference between the minimum mounting height of 80 inches and the actual lower installation height.

That reference to low ceiling does not seem to apply directly to line of sight obstructions that come below the ceiling.
It may be necessary instead to ceiling mount a strobe on the far side of the duct?

I suppose I should have actually paid attention to that "duct" part of the post. Oops.
