Is there any where in NFPA or IBC as to you have to have a strobe(Audio or Visual) in a 3x3 electrical/data closet? Its doesn't make sense for me to add one cause its in the corridor and when those go off i am sure they can hear it in the closet.Any code reference would help.

My rule of thumb is to consider whether or not one might reasonably be able to enter the space and close the door behind you. For a room of your size, I'd say not, especially if there is any racking/equipment in it of any kind. But my thumb is not the code.

You might suggest to anyone who asks that the closet does not create an "acoustically distinguishable space" and does not therefore require a device or separate coverage from the hallway or corridor.

I have to agree, if there is data equipment in that small of a space - can a person really enter that space? Even if they could they probably have no room to close the door and do anything but hide out in there. To work on the equipment in there with the door closed would seem very impractical.

I can understand that.I thought of it the same way if i have a visible/audio strobe in the corridor i dont need a strobe of any kind for that skinny closet.I was just looking to see if i ma missing any code section.

It isn't an unreasonable rule of thumb to completely eliminate the need. If you can't close the door then you certainly won't find a code that requires a horn or strobe assuming the surrounding area is properly covered. But just because you can close the door doesn't mean you need a horn or strobe. Just saying.
