Structural components for fire alarm cable

Under the provisions of 760.6, what is the definition of structural components. Is this to mean that alarm cable, when installed above a suspended ceiling can not be strapped to the sprinkler piping. Above the ceiling would not be considered exposed, so would this be acceptable?

Have you looked at ANSI/NECA 305-2001, Standard for Fire Alarm System Job Practices? It might be in there.

2002 NEC Article 100 Definitions
Exposed (as applied to wiring methods). On or attached to the surface or behind panels designed to allow access.

760.57 Support of Conductors.
Power-limited fire alarm circuit conductors shall not be strapped, taped, or attached by any means to the exterior of any conduit or other raceway as a means of support.

"2002 NEC 760.6 (The last sentence)The installation shall also conform with 300.4(D)

Honestly, do you consider a sprinkler system to be a "structural component"?

Strapping any cable to any piping is bad practice. If there is need for repair in the future, the cable will be the most likely thing to be damaged. I always try to keep these things in mind when working on new installations.
