stud cavitys

Hi Guys,


Can anyone direct me to the code - IBC or otherwise which would dictate that when I have multiple boxes in the same stud cavity, the boxes must face the same way as to avoid pulling smoke from the opposite side of the wall. (This is an office remodel...steel studs) I am told that this is "code" but am unable to find anything anywhere.

300.21 is the code, and the UL Orange Book is the design manual. The box manufacturer's fire rating schedule will list the maximum number of square inches of a given box model of box that may be in one bay.

If it is a firewall the info can be found in the UL 'Orange' book.
