I have a friend/co-worker that has been approved for and is studying to take the NC Limited license. English is his second language (he is Brazilian), and although he speaks english rather well I was wondering if anyone had any study tips.

Yes , their are electrical prep classes at the tech schools.
For writing or reading, he could also take english 101 at the same tech school.
