Sub Panel Location Restrictions

I had a person ask me about locations of sub panels. He was looking at a home to purchase, this house had a sub panel located directly next to the main panel. His concern was whether this is "to code" or not. I explained about bonding at the main vs no bonding at the sub, not exceeding the calculated and connected loads, but I couldn't point to a specific point in the code that defines allowable uses. Any ideas? Thanks.

There are restrictions for all panel locations of some sort. A sub panel being next to the main panel is nor one of them. There are no restrictions for just sub-panels. Can you tell us what the code says about bathroom locations??? Closets?? Attics???
