Is there a section where I can find more on sub-panels? I was told they are called Remote Panels, but I cant find it in the index of the code.

The code books make no mentions of sub panels or remote panels. Art. 408 is he best you will get.

You will not find the term "sub-panel" in the NEC.

The NEC usually talks about service equipment and panelboards.

So a panelboard that is not part of the service is just a panelboard.

You will find the term remote panelboard in a few sections such as 680.74 dealing with bonding of hydromassage bathtubs, but there is no specific section in the NEC that deals with "remote panelboards".

Panelboards are dealt with in Article 408.

The cabinet that the panelboard will be mounted in will be dealt with in Article 312.

so basically, its size everything for the load to be served. they should address it, but probably its not that big of an issue. it would be nice if the code called something, though.

The feeder supplying a panelboard would need to be sized in accordance with 215.2.

The panelboard would be sized in accordance with 408.30

408.30 General.
All panelboards shall have a rating not less than the minimum feeder capacity required for the load calculated in accordance with Parts II, III, IV, or V of Article 220 as applicable.

Section 408 covers panels.

There are basically two types of panels, if that is what you are trying to get at. The ones supplied by a service see section 230, and the ones supplied by a feeder see section 215.

Basically, every panel after the main-disconnect enclosure is a sub-panel, as far as wiring requirements go.
