Subfeed

Can anyone tell me what a sub feed as opposed to a tap. One of or guys hooked up a panel with a main, he says it's a subfeed, the inspector says it's a tap, and won't pass it. Thanks

Look at the definition of a "tap" in Art 240.
If the breaker/fuse is larger than the conductor ampacity it's likely a tap
