I am having a problem with sizing a subpanel to supply a kitchen and laundry room for a remodel.
The single family home has an existing 200 amp single phase service with 3 bedrooms and baths in each, the living and dining room, foyer/loggia. The existing circuits also include a 60 amp subpanel supplying 3 condensers and air handlers.

Included in the subpanel would be one 50 amp double oven, washer, 30 amp dryer, (2) dishwashers, disposals, wine cooler, subzero, ice maker, general counter top receptacles, and recessed lights.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Subpanel for kitchen & laundry room

You have not provided enough information. As this is a subpanel, look at NEC 220-17. Get the nameplate ratings of the appliances, add in the two kitchen circuits at 1500VA each, add 5000Va for the dryer unless you know the nameplate. My guess is that you need a 100 amp panel. It sounds like this is a larger custom home, there may be a problem with the total load. To protect yourself, it's probably best to have someone put the plan together, do the calc, stamp it, and submit for a permit.

Re: Subpanel for kitchen & laundry room

If you start pushing the limits of the main or the new subpanel going gas on some of the appliances will reduce your load. How big is this house? How big is the addition?

Re: Subpanel for kitchen & laundry room

Go to Article 220 and calculate the load on the service for the home with the addition. If it all fits, you are home free. :)
