I'm pretty sure I know the answer but would like some extra input

I have 3 subpanel feeders that were ran with regular romex 100 amp instead of ser cable

My problem is that I have to terminate into exterior pull boxes and a small amount of emt before it hits the meter pack

As far as I understand standard romex wire is not rated for wet locations so I would have to do a splice in the pull box under the house then run THWN to the meter pack also if I did this does the ground from the romex need to be changed to THWN also

Thanks for the advise

The NM cable will enter the meter pack through the wall from a dry location? If so you would need to determine if the inside of the meter pack is a wet or dry location. If dry then you're code complaint.

No, "exterior pull boxes and a small amount of emt before it hits the meter pack" means that the EMT is exterior.

Interesting question about the EGC in the NM, can it be run bare through the short EMT section, splicing only the insulated conductors to a wet rated insulation type.

Also, for the OP, is it possible to replace the small amount of EMT with another enclosure, so the NM cable wouldn't be in any exterior raceway?

Cheers, Wayne

You're correct, if the EMT is in a wet location then the NM cable need to transition to a wet rated conductor. No reason why the cable cannot come into the back of the pull box and then pull THWN in the raceway and splice in the box.

Hi Wayne

So let me clarify

The NM cable coming from the subpanel will need to go ext into a pull box then emt into meter pack I assume those cables in the pull box and emt are considered wet location

And as far as the ground I was just asking if the nec cares if those are wet rated

The conductors in the EMT between the PB and the meter pack will need to be rated for wet locations so the conductors inside of the NM cable cannot go in the EMT. The bare EGC does not matter.

Ok that's what I thought
Thanks

I was going to use a insulated muti cap connector to transition from NM cable to water rated cable?
