Would like to run a subpanel to an outdoor area with the items listed at the bottom of this question. I have access to some scrap (but still 125ft+) rolls of aluminum 4 awg, 2/0 awg and 4/0 awg black wire I believe is intended for above ground service access from the utility company. My run would be 125ft underground from main to sub panel. My questions are:
1) Can you tell me which size you’d recommend for feeds, neutral and ground keeping in mind I have aluminum and the distance? Could buy copper if needed for ground but prefer to use what I have.
2) any reason I can’t use this type of wire in conduit? I understand distance and conduit should be factored.
3) looks like I need to run all 4 wires back to main panel. I should not run 3 and ground at sub per newer code, correct? THANK YOU!
