hey guys ive got a buddy who wants me to wire a 20x20 shed for him no big deal right. ha the problem I have is this is a slab house with a full powerpack. my thought process is this do a service calc if I can add this shed to existing panel mount a subpanel next to the powerpack feed the existing ac unit and shed out of new subpanel would this be acceptable by nec standards thanks again I would add another panel in shed for circuits in the shed or is that 2nd panel overkill?

Re: subpanel

I'd think it would depend on how many circuits to the shed.

What? one, two or three?

I would probably not install two new panels unless there is some reason for it that you haven't mentioned.

Re: subpanel

physis thanks for your quick response for some reason I was thinking I had to have a means of disconect at the shed buddy hasnt told me everything he wants in the shed

Re: subpanel

A means of disconnect can be a 15 amp snap switch if you have only one circuit. No Grounding electrode required either. Can he get by on one 20 amp circuit? Most sheds, I'll bet you could. I've installed sub-panels with grounding electrode systems and 4 wire 60a feeders, etc, etc and I can say that most times they are not needed. Owner usually never comes close to needing all that ampacity. Of course there are some that do, but most homeowners don't.
