Can anyone tell me where in the code book that is says the subpanel has to be at least 1/2 the amperage of the main. Ex. 200a main panel has to have a 100a subpanel or greater, a 60a subpanel could not be used. I'm told this applies only to residential applications, but I've never heard it and cannot find it in the code.

Re: Subpanels

Who ever told you this, has he ever sent you to the truck for wire stretchers? joking. I concur with Brian.

Settle down Beavis. Maybe someone else told him. At least he tried to find it instead of just beleiving or, or asking for help without first trying to help himself.

Re: Subpanels

I was told by an EC who does residential wiring, it surprised me when he said it, but could not find anything in the code about this. Just thought I'd run it by this forum to see what others think. (the EC couldn't find it either but thought it was in there) Thanks for the comments.

No, not from PA; there couldn't be 2 Brad Troxel's!!!!
