Substation Design

We are looking at getting into some substation design and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of books or guides to buy. The subs we are looking will be user owned and 69kV.

We were looking at the IEEE 1109-1990 and "Electric Power Substations Engineering" by John McDonald.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

You may find some guidance in the National Electrical Safety Code.

I suggest you not try by trial and error. Might consider hiring a retired utility sub-station engineer on a consultant or project basis and learn from him.

Substation Design

Thanks for everyone's input. We are definetly going to use some assistance from a retired utility engineer as well as input from an E.C. who has a lot of high voltage experience.
