Can anyone tell me what to expect on the Suffolk County, NY Practical exam?
Written-passed. Now practical.

Back when I took it there were 2 different variations (I think).

They gave a list of materials to bring.

From what I remember the one I took had to do with wiring Motor Controls with separate fused control supply and using various wiring methods, associated fittings and related trade practices. (ie conduit, flex, maybe NM or MC cable).

Mike, I took the test about 7 years ago and I believe they have a board with a couple of variables; contactors, E-stop, start/stop switches, etc. They'll want to know you know the proper methods of wiring; BX/MC, bending pipe (offsets, etc.), where to staple. I used loose wire (#12 THHN stranded), BX, romex, 10' of 1/2" EMT. I believe they give you a list of what you'll need to bring. I took a course in Rocky Point (North Elec.) and Joe had mock ups of things you might see on the test. That made things easier. Pete
