Suitable running boards for underground feeds

Does anyone know of accepted methods for "running boards"? 300.5 (F) I would like to give this a try for my next underground service in the mountains.

But I prefer sand, under and around, when digging and you find the sand you are close.

We don't have rock but we do have gophers. Sch 40 PVC, or 80 if you want to spend the money, along with a good sand buffer should work well.

I'll be using sched40 the whole run but the mountain side is all granite and labor/delivery of sand is too costly.

I also use the sand method for my pole lights. Once they auger the hole, you see a little white dot there. Makes it easy to find and the sand falls out easily to access the coupling.
