I have a client that has spec'd #4/0 TW/THW to be used as the connecting conductor between ground rods in a grounding grid. the ground grid taps are to be #2/0 TW/THW. my question is this: is the use of the TW/THW rated conductors suitable for the direct burial application in this case? thanks to all for your help

Re: suitablity of ground conductor

250.62 Grounding Electrode Conductor Material.
The grounding electrode conductor shall be of copper, ......insulated, covered, or bare.

Re: suitablity of ground conductor

This question has come up before. For a GEC the type of insulation (or no insulation) is immaterial.

Re: suitablity of ground conductor

As Dave and John point out, there is no need for insulation at all, and IMO I would think it would be prefered to have the portion of conductor below grade to be bare and in direct contact with earth simply to add to the GE.
