Hi Folks -
I have a 480V 3 phase 1 HP sump pump with a remote motor starter with separate overload device. The pump nameplate does not have a SF data in which to base the overload device setting.

Talking with the pump manufacturer (Zoeller) was not productive because what you see is what you get.

Should I use the 430.32(A)(1) "All other motors 115%" I don't know......

Truth is this pump does have an internal thermal device with two leads brought out through the pump cable. These of course could be used to interrupt the motor control circuit except the engineering has us using their engineered motor starter overload. (go figure).

IMO:
Use the overload supplied with nameplate FLA for overload setting. The starter you use may have some additional instructions. Pumps are usually Class 10 for overload selection. Assuming the leads are a thermal switch not a sensor. Series the thermal switch leads in series with the control circuit. If it opens, the starter opens. Expect the thermal to fail 'open' at some point. Seems like they always do.
