support for MC cable

I do almost completely residential work. If I want to use MC cable horizontally in a open ceiling alongside an existing 1/2 inch emt conduit, can I fasten my new MC to that conduit, and if so what kind of connectors do I use? I assume the connectors need to be fire resistant. It is in a storage room in an animal hospital. If I need to run another rigid type conduit instead of MC, I can, but... Thank you.
 
I don't see how you can meet the requirements of 300.11(B).

I would be looking for an alternative method to support and secure the MC cable.

You cannot fasten the MC to EMT per the aforementioned 300.11(B). You can use the same strut if the EMT is mounted on that.

Erico/Caddy has a complete line of fasteners for every imaginable install. If you are securing to the building surface, I'd use 3/8" two hole straps on every other joist.
