In a metal stud wall today, I added a couple of horizontal pieces to secure my EMT straps to. The job leader told me that it was "no longer allowed" to support EMT that way. Is there any violation to support EMT from added pieces of metal studs? (I couldn't find anything it the NEC)

I agree. Sounds like one of those myths that get spread around and grow everytime someones tells it.:)

Chris

Although the person who told me this is well experienced, I seem to be running in to a lot of myths working here.

As you know, I'm new at the company, and for the most part just keep the tools moving and the mouth shut, but that one kind of threw me a bit.

I've seen and heard this many times. Believe it or not, some journeyman truly believe in these myths--never taking the time to investigate the rules. You are doing the right thing by asking questions!

I've been known to cut some track to support stuff in a pinch, but they do make adjustable brackets that don't require tin snips.

If they want to dish out the $$ for spanner bars I"m all for it. Instead of me screwing around with tin snips. Wham bam and keep on trucking.
