The NEC 300.19(A) does not speak to multi conductor cables. My understanding is that the support requirements is to keep the weight off the insulation from the top edge of a run. 300.19 specifies 40ft-50ft for a 500kcmil cable. What about a 4X5kcmil cable. I have four times the weight? Than you for your help with this.

IMO, there are conductors inside the cables so the rule applies. You may have four times the weight but you have four cables with the weight distributed between them.

Thank you for your reply, The cable has 4X500kcmil conductors. The internal conductors twist around each other down the cable. At the 90degree bend down all of that weight could be on only one of those cables side wall. couldn't it?
