Got into a discussion about securing T-Bar wires at both ends. Usually tied off to the T-bar. As far back as I can remember 300.11(A) states you need to tie off your wires to the grid but a journeyman I work with insists that he did many jobs by folding his wires up and not tying them off to the grid and that the code only recently changed that. Anyone have access to code books older than 2008 that have 300.11(A) ? My guess is that this has always been a code requirement to tie off your wires top and bottom.

It was probably always the intent, but the language that specifically required the support wire to be secured at both ends was added in the 1999 code.
Prior to that it said:
"Support wires that do not provide secure support shall not be permitted as the sole support"

Thank you sir. That makes sense now. I could do remember a time when it was acceptable and now I know why. It was a long time ago. In all actuality though I can’t really see a pendulum as being secure support.

The ceiling installers don’t like our support wires too tight as that can make the grid not level. Caddy makes a clip for this it used to be called an EC300 or similar
