Finding it difficult to come up with a universal way to mount bathroom exhaust fans in grid ceilings.

There are so many variables with fan styles that mounting in a consistent manner seems impossible.

Seems like the discharge/ ducting is in the way of affixing anything to that side of the housing.

Thoughts appreciated.

1/2" plywood 23 3/4" x 23 3/4"

cut out with template for fan.

cut out ceiling tile to match.

put together on floor

put in ceiling

put seismic wires in to pan above.

wire up.

tell lazy tin knocker to come do his job.

go home.

Putting wood in a ceiling may be a violation unless it is fire retardant plywood.

You can take the t-bar brackets that mount to the grid and then use a small strap to mount it to the side of the fan

If you do use fire retardant plywood and you decide to paint it to sort of match the rest of the ceiling, make sure the marking that states it is fire retardant is visible, even if on the upper surface away from the occupied space. Depending on where the mark is applied, you will have to exercise care as to how you trim the sheet to keep the mark visible. If the mark is on only one location on the sheet, you won't be able to use the remainder of the sheet for another installation of this type.
