For years I have been trying to find the best product for installing smoke / heat detectors in suspended ceilings. I have tried boxes with the straps that clip on to the grid, wiremold pans secured to the grid, and cut-in boxes into the tile. I have yet to find a great method. So I ask - what have others found to be the best code compliant method of installing smoke / heat / CO detectors on suspended ceiling grids?

I like the Caddy 512HD's. I take some scrap ceiling tile and cut a small piece to put between the tile and the bar to keep the tile from pushing up.

I too use the caddy brackets that attach to the ceiling grid, I use a 4 squ box and put a 4-O round mud ring on it to go through the hole in the ceiling tile, this helps with stopping the ceiling tile from lifting. and you only have to cut a hole for the mud ring, not the 4-squ box.

This is how we do it also.
