Can u tell me where to find the code for swimming pool bond lug connectors that are allowed. Inspectors here are saying they must be 100% non magnetic. Which means set screw must be 316 stainless. I dont think this is code. I believe code just states stainless steel. Please help me out. All they do is walk around the pool and check every lug with a magnet..
We use a #8 bare copper and were building vinyl pools. So every piece of aluminum liner track must have a lay in bond lug attached to it with stainless steel screw and stainless steel set screw in the lug itself. There asking for 316 stainless now when what we have done for years is no longer acceptable.

680.7 was added to the 2017 code because of corrosion issues with bonding connections. The code only specifies stainless steel and does not specify which type of stainless. There is nothing in the language that says they must be non-magnetic. Various types of stainless have varying magnetic properties.

680.7 Grounding and Bonding Terminals.
Grounding and bonding terminals shall be identified for use in wet and corrosive environments. Field-installed grounding and bonding connections in a damp, wet, or corrosive environment shall be composed of copper, copper alloy, or stainless steel. They shall be listed for direct burial use.

So how are inspectors supposed to test for stainless if it has magnetic properties like 304 stainless. I can use 304 stainless and there gonna fail us cause its magnetic. Shouldnt DB stamped on the side of the lug be acceptable. Meaning dirrct burial lug which come with stainless steel set screw

They really can’t use magnetism to test. Not only are some SS alloys magnetic, not everything that is not magnetic is stainless.
An aluminum set screw would not be magnetic, but would be a terrible choice!

I think I would have a manufacturer’s spec sheet handy?

Agreed. As an inspector, in our jurisdiction if it were in question we would just ask to see the listing.
